Awarded Young Scientist Medal on December 10, 2018 for developing new criteria for liver transplantation and introducing them into clinical practice as the so-called "Warsaw Criteria".
Michał Grąt, PhD, is a graduate of the Medical University of Warsaw, he graduated from the first Faculty of Medicine with a very good result in 2012. Already during his studies, he was the head of two mini-grants of the Student Scientific Society and received the Diamond Grant of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. He was awarded a doctorate in medical sciences in 2013. His doctoral thesis concerned the concentration of alfaprotein with the risk of recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma in patients after liver transplantation. Three years later, in April 2016, he was awarded the degree of doctor habilitated in medical science. Since 2012, he has been an active member of the Clinic's transplantation team, and since 2016 - an independent operator of liver donations from a deceased donor. He participated as an operator of liver donation from a deceased donor in the first simultaneous lung and heart transplantation in Poland. He also performed one of the first ALPPS (Associating Liver Partition with Portal vein ligation for Staged hepatectomy) liver surgery in Poland. In 2018, he received funding and became a project manager in the SONATA competition. The thematic scope of the project includes finding the optimal technique for closing the abdominal shells after oncological operations.
Dr. Michał Grąt is an award-winning and honored author or co-author of 62 scientific articles. His achievements include, among others, the Scholarship of the Minister of Health, „Laur Medyczny im. Doktora Wacława Mayzla” of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Award of the Polish Medical Society, the Final Award within the "Scientific Awards of the Polityka weekly, the Final Award in the Supertalenty "Puls Medycyny" competition, the START Scholarship of the Foundation for Polish Science, the International Liver Transplantation Society Travel Award and numerous Medical University of Warsaw Rector's awards.
