Colloquium Lecture “About Marian Smoluchowski on the 100th anniversary of his death", 26.10.2017
Professor Bogdan Cichocki from the Institute of Theoretical Physics at University of Warsaw will give a lecture “About Marian Smoluchowski on the 100th anniversary of his death" on 26th of October 2017.
Prof. dr hab. Bogdan Cichocki works at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, University of Warsaw. His field of scientific activity is statistical physics, the aim of which is to infer the laws of the world around us from the laws relating to the world of atoms.
Marian Smoluchowski, a brilliant Polish physicist, died prematurely on September 5th, 1917 at the age of only 45, and was one of the most outstanding scientists at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, co-creator of the kinetic theory of matter. The lecture delivered on the 100th anniversary of his death is going to present his fascinating way of life and his most important scientific achievements , how extremely important was a role of Marian Smoluchowski in the "vocation of atoms to life" and the recognition of their reality, his study of case in the deterministic world, and also his solution of the problem of blue sky colour. His great passion for mountaineering and his achievements in this field will also be recalled.
The seminar will take place at:
