Professor Jonathan Blackledge
Profesor Jonathan Blackledge, School of Electrical Engineering Systems, College of Engineering and Build Environment, Dublin - is a leading specialist in Digital Signal Processing (DSP).
Professor Blackledge's research concentrates on inverse problems' solving methods in electromagnetism and acoustics, particularly involving analysis of signals and images. In recent years, his activities are focused on data encoding algorithms, concealing information (digital watermark), data authentication, as well as encrypted data management.
Professor Jonathan Blackledge graduated from Imperial College University, London and Royal College of Music, London in 1980. In 1984 he received PhD in theoretical physics from Kings College University, London. Between 1984 and 1988 he worked for Research Fellow of Physics at Kings College, London, where he conducted research on inverse problems' solving methods in electromagnetism and acoustics. In 1988 he was a member of Applied Mathematics and Computing Group at Cranfield University where having a post of a lecturer, and later a senior lecturer and a team leader, he worked on promotion of postgraduate education research in engineering. In 1994 professor Blackledge became a fellow at the Institute of Maths and its Applications, he also became a head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at De Montfort University in Leicester, where he founded the Institute of Simulation Sciences. In 2003-2008 he was a Visiting Professor at the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at Loughborough University, where he participated in seting up of the Advanced Signal Processing Research Group. In 2004 he received the title of Professor Extraordinaire of Computer Science in the Department of Computer Science at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. In 2010 he was nominated to Distinguished Professor at the Center for Advanced Studies at Warsaw University of Technology, Poland.
Additionally, professor Blackledge holds a position of Science Foundation Ireland Stokes Professor, he is also honorary member of a number of prestigious institutions: The Institute of Physics, the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the British Computer Society, the Royal Statistical Society. Professor Blackledge is an author or co-author of over 100 articles, papers, conference speeches, he authored 10 books. He is a holder of 10 patents and 6 commercial computer programs. He has been a supervisor for over 50 doctoral dissertations.
During his stay at WUT, professor Blackledge will deliver a series of seminars and single lectures titled: ā€˛Cryptology and Information Security including Knowledge Exchange and Technology Transferā€¯.
Professor Jonathan M. Blackledge will be hosted at the Warsaw University of Technology by Professor Jerzy Banaszek, Professor Jan Szmidt and Professor Stanisław Janeczko in March 2010 and March 2011.
