WUT Colloquium Lecture
Distinguished architect Mario Botta will give a lecture: The Latest Projects, 10 June 2014
Mario Botta was born in 1943 in Switzerland. He graduated from the Institute of Architecture, Università Iuav di Venezia, Italy. In 1970 Mario Botta opened his practice in Lugano. Since then he has been reconciling his work as an architect with didactic activity (lectures and seminars delivered all over the world). He was a visiting scholar at École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne and Yale School of Architecture, New Haven, USA. Mario Botta designed more than 300 buildings (banks, museums, schools, places of religious worship and others). He is a recipient of many awards, inter alia: 1986 Chicago Architecture Award; 1996 Merit Award for Excellence in Design AIA, California; 1999 Chevalier dans l’Ordre national de la Legion d’Honneur, Paris; 2005 Grande Ufficiale al Merito della Repubblica Italiana, Rome; 2006 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage Europa Nostra, Hague; 2007 International Architecture Award, The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design; 2010 The Golden Award for Global Contribution in Architecture, Architecture + Design & Spectrum Foundation, Kuala Lumpur.
Mario Botta is a member of the Swiss Federal Commission of Fine Arts; an honorary member of many international cultural institutions; doctor honoris causa of Argentinian, Greek, Romanian, Brazilian and Swiss universities. He is the initiator the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio.
The colloquium lecture will take place on 10 June 2014, at 12:15 pm in Mała Aula (WUT Main Building).
