University seminar "Horizons of Science Disciplines", 21.11.2024
The WUT Centre for Advanced Studies invites you to the university-wide scientific seminar Horizons of Science Disciplines entitled "Cooperation between medical doctor and engineer". The online meeting will be held on the TEAMS platform.
The seminar speaker will be Prof. Marcel Mlynczak from the Faculty of Mechatronics at the Warsaw University of Technology, and the meeting will be moderated by Prof. Tadeusz Pałko.
In an era of rapid advancements in medical technology, collaboration between physicians and engineers is becoming essential for comprehensive progress in healthcare. The future of medicine will rely not only on clinical expertise but also on technological innovations. These have the potential to improve diagnostic efficiency, enable less invasive treatments, and support a more personalized approach to patient care. This presentation will explore how the specialized knowledge and practical experience of physicians can integrate with engineering approaches and methodologies. Specific examples will illustrate the development of novel hardware and technological solutions, enhancements in the quality of recorded signals, and the extraction of new insights from routinely collected data. The pathway from identifying an unmet clinical need through prototyping to clinical implementation will be examined. Additionally, the role of emerging artificial intelligence models will be highlighted. Finally, both the benefits and challenges of this collaboration – including legal and regulatory considerations – will be discussed.
Dr. hab. inż. Marcel Młyńczak, prof. WUT. With over 12 years of experience in biomedical engineering, specializes in medical device design and prototyping, along with physiological measurement techniques, bioimpedance as a tissue marker, and advanced data analysis through machine learning, statistics, and biostatistics. He graduated from Warsaw University of Technology and now serves as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Mechatronics, where he merges academic pursuits with practical innovation. He actively collaborate with researchers at the Medical University of Warsaw and the National Centre for Sports Medicine. In 2019, he joined Stanford University’s School of Medicine as a Visiting Assistant Professor, and in 2024, he completed the Healthcare Leadership Program at Said Business School, Oxford University. Recognized for his contributions, he have received the NSF Young Professionals Award (2016), Best Student Paper Award (2017), and the Best Paper JSAMS (2022). He is also a two-time scholarship recipient from Poland’s Minister of Science and Higher Education. As the author and co-author of 36 JCR-indexed papers, holder of a patent and two industrial designs, and co-founder of two medical startups, he has honed both R&D and business development skills.
The online meeting will take place on 21 November 2024 at 4.15 p.m. on the TEAMS platform. Registration for the event at the seminar address is mandatory.
