Professor John Vlachopoulos
Professor John Vlachopoulos (Mc Master University, Hamilton, Canada)
Professor John Vlachopoulos was born in Greece in 1942. He graduated from engineering studies at the National Technical University of Athens; got his M.Sc. at Washington University, USA., one year later he defended his Ph.D. dissertation.
He continued his academic career at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, at Mc Master University, Hamilton, Canada, since 1978 employed as a full professor. He set up a renowned research centre – Centre for Advanced Polymer Processing and Design (CAPPA-D).
Professor Vlachopoulos is an author of over 250 fundamental work in rheology and plastic processing (modeling of processing – extrusion moulding, reactive moulding, calendaring, heat forming, rotational forming, foil moulding) modeling of effects in material flow (Barus effect, fountain effect, coalescence), modeling of polymer flow in extrusion heads, rheology and wood-based composites processing, biodegradable materials.
Professor Vlachopoulos’s research on modeling of processing contributed to launching numerous computer programmes facilitating processing designing: POLYCAD 2-D, EXTRUCAD, NEXTRUCAD, FLATCAD, SPIRALCAD, PROFILECAD, LAYERCAD, T-FORMCAD, CALENDERCAD, RHEOMWD, XTRU-XPERT., The above programmes, licensed by POLYDYNAMICS INC – the company established and run by professor Vlachopolous, are widely used in global industry in more than 500 enterprises, in 27 countries.
Professor Vlachopoulos was a president of the Polymer Processing Society; he received many superb awards;: Society of Rheology (Canada, 2007); Distinguished Peter Benham Lecturer (Ireland, 2000) or Fred E. Schwab Award for Outstanding Achievements in Education (SPE, USA, 2001). His lectures and seminar are delivered in 6 languages and are highly popular in the world.
Professor Vlachopoulos will visit Warsaw University of Technology in April 2011.
