He graduated from Universidad de Antioquia (BSc in physics – 1982, MSc in Physics – 1986) and then got his PhD in 1993 at Technische Universität Berlin, Germany. At present, he is a titular professor of physics at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Medellin – Colombia as well as head of an optical research group.
Prof. Castañeda’s scientific interests concern spatial cohesion theory, metrology, holography, microscopy, the history of physics and, in particular, the history of optics.
He is the author of circa 70 articles in international indexed journals, a laureate of: the University Honour Medal awarded by Universidad Nacional de Colombia; National Award of Science – the most prestigious distinction for the Colombian scientific community, awarded by the Alejandro Ángel Escobar Foundation; he also received the title: Regular Associate from the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics.
Prof. Castañeda will be a guest of the Warsaw University of Technology in the academic year of 2009/2010, and his visit will be supervised by Prof. Andrzej Kołodziejczyk and Prof. Stanisław Janeczko.
